The Front is very excited to now have available for hire the latest innovation from Canon, the 5DS DSLR Camera. You’ve all heard about it, now you can finally get your hands on it. Boasting a ground-breaking full-frame sensor featuring a colossal 50.6 megapixels, this ultra-high resolution camera lends itself perfects to large-scale printing and also allows you to crop your images with greater freedom.
To process data on these scales, the Canon 5DS contains Dual DIGIC 6 Image Processors, guaranteeing fast performance speeds and exceptional image quality. Continuous shooting can reach speeds of up to 5fps, which for a pixel density as large as this camera’s, is something quite astounding!
And besides the ultra-high resolving power of this camera, the 5DS introduces to the respected 5D-series a total revamp of the AF system, enabling fast and precise auto-focus and tracking. iSA, or Intelligent Scene Analysis, deploys an independent RGB+IR sensor enabling Intelligent Tracking and Recognition (iTR AF) switching automatically between the sensor’s 61 AF points (41 of which are cross-type), synchronising the active AF point with the speed and motion of the subject, allowing you to pull focus with unprecedented efficiency and accuracy.
Mirror-induced camera vibration which can easily be a problem on ultra-high resolution cameras such as this. So, in order to suppress these unwanted movements, the Canon 5DS features a Mirror Vibration Control system whereby the vibration is eliminated by means of controlling the mirror with a small motor and cams instead of the traditional spring-loaded mechanism. The Time Release Lag mode also allows you to extend the shutter release time for longer so that the camera begins exposure only once the impact of the mirror has dissipated.
Video features include recording Full HD (1080x1920) at 30p, as well as a Time Lapse Movie function which automatically sequences a series of images captured with the built-in Intervalometer into a full HD movie file.
With a pixel density as large as that of the Canon 5DS, you can easily crop your images without fear of pixelation. The camera features two inbuilt cropping modes of 1.3x and 1.6x, creating images with sizes of approximately 30.5 MP and 19.6 MP respectively. With cropped file sizes such as these you can easily extend the capabilities of your telephoto lenses without needing to worry about image degradation. Cropping the sensor area also improves AF abilities as the AF points effectively fill up more of the frame of view.
The new features of the Canon 5DS are truly impressive and numerous, and it represents a significant upgrade on the Canon 5D Mark III you’ve all come to know and love. So come check out the Canon 5DS for yourself at The Front, available for hire today!
